PPK 앵무새
IAIC 다음 날인 10월 26일 토요일, 우리의 일정에 몇 가지 행사가 추가 되었습니다. 인도에서 온 소규모 그룹의 사육가들과 함께 PPK 앵무새 농장을 방문했습니다. PKK 앵무새 농장은 아시아 앵무새, 특히 마스타쉬 앵무와 알렉산드린 앵무 사육으로 유명합니다. 세계에서 파란색, 회색, 아쿠아색, 오팔린 소달마 앵무를 볼 수 있는 아주 드문 장소 중 한 곳입니다.
이곳의 사육시설을 방문한 것은 이번이 두 번째였습니다. 여느 때처럼 수차트 씨와 부인, 그리고 아들 앤디가 따뜻하게 맞이해 주었습니다. 상쾌한 코코넛을 마신 후 시설을 안내해 주셨고, 우리의 질문에도 매우 솔직하게 답변해 주셨습니다. 전설적인 조류학자이자 인도 콜카타 소재 선샤인 버드월드의 디렉터인 데바시스 박사가 인도 사육가 그룹을 이끌었습니다. 우리가 사랑하는 아시아 패러킷 사육에 관한 의견을 교환할 수 있는 소중한 기회였습니다.
그랜드 플라이트
오후에는 파몬차이 서플라이와 버셀레-라가가 후원하는 그랜드 플라이트 대회 결승전을 관람했습니다. 자유 비행 대회는 연중 다양한 시기와 장소에서 열립니다. 이 인기 있는 행사에 다양한 연령대의 새 주인들이 자신의 새와 함께 참여합니다. 참여 부문은 새 주인의 나이와 새의 종류에 따라 나뉩니다. 대회 중 새들은 투명 상자에 넣어지고, 주인들은 약 20미터 떨어진 곳에 위치합니다.
두 새가 동시에 임시 우리에서 풀려나면 주인을 향해 날아갑니다. 새가 주인의 팔이나 어깨에 내려 앉는 즉시 주인은 종을 울릴 수 있습니다. 가장 먼저 종을 울린 주인이 승리하여 다음 라운드에 진출합니다. 참가한 앵무새 대부분은 다양한 종류의 마카우입니다. 대부분의 새들은 곧장 주인에게 돌아오지만, 가끔 다른 방향으로 날아가기도 합니다. 새들은 대개 매우 빨리 주인에게 돌아옵니다. 특별 게스트로서 우리는 각 부문 우승자들에게 트로피와 상을 수여하는 영광을 가졌습니다. 오후 6시경, 근처 해산물 레스토랑에서 멋진 저녁 식사로 또 하나의 환상적인 하루를 마무리했습니다.
PPK Parrots
On Saturday, October 26, the day after the IAIC, we had a few extra events on our schedule.
Together with a small group of breeders from India, we visited PPK Parrots. PKK Parrots is well known for breeding Asian parakeets, in particular Moustache parakeets and Alexandrine parakeets. It is one of the very few place in the world where you can see Blue, Grey, Aqua, Opaline Moustache parakeets.
It was my second visit to this breeding facility. As usual we were warmly welcomed by Mr. Suchart, his wife and their son Andy. After a refreshing coconut they guided us around their facility and they answered our questions very openly. The group of Indian breeders was led by Dr. Debashis, a legendary aviculturist and director of Sunshine Birdworld in Kolkata, India. It was a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas about breeding our beloved Asian parakeets.
Grand flight
In the afternoon, we attended the finale of the grand flight competition, sponsored by Pamornchai Supply and Versele-Laga. The free flight competition takes place at different times of the year and at different locations.
Many bird owners of different ages participate in these popular events with their birds. There are different categories depending on the age of the bird owner and on the bird species. During the contest the birds are put in a transparent box while their owners take place at further distance, about 20 meters.
Both birds are released simultaneously from their temporary cage, after which they fly towards their owner. As soon as the bird lands on the owner’s arm or shoulder, the owner may ring a bell. The owner who rings the bell first wins and advances to the next round. The vast majority of participating parrots are different species of macaws.
Most birds fly straight back to their owner, but occasionally one flies off in the wrong direction. Birds usually return to their owner fairly quickly. As special guests, we had the honor of presenting the trophies and prizes to the winners in each category. At around 6 p.m., we concluded another fantastic day with a wonderful dinner at a nearby seafood restaurant.
